Where are the bees going?

Apparently a quarter of the United States honeybee colonies have collapsed! For whatever reason, adult honeybees are not returning to their hives. Read about it at the NY Times.

Is it just me, or does this sound like the plot of a science fiction movie?

here's a blog by bill maher that i like: the birds, the bees and earthday.

in it he quotes einstein as saying "if the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would have only four years of life left. No more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more man."

i'm not sure that einstein actually said this... as are many other people right now... but i still think maher makes a great point!
